Turtle, Jim, Tom

Turtle: Turtles are slow but they keep walking until they get to where they want to go. Turtles have been on earth for about 230 million years. Longer then anyone. It symbolizes nature, and how nature is coming back to to regain existence. The turtle was dropping seeds which symbolizes planting seeds to make regain more nature.

Jim Casey: Old preacher who loves people but is questioning if he beleives in Jesus. He is not the perfect preacher, he sleeps with a lot of women, and as a preacher he is lost. He lives in the wilderness. The theme he backs up (we vs. I)

Tom Joad: Was in jail for 4 years because he killed someone in self defense. The guy attacked him with a knife and he hit him with a shovel. He is on probation and goes back to Oklahoma and works with his dad on the farm. Tom is lost after he gets out of jail and has no where to go but home. The theme he backs up (Anger)

Characters: Joad, a man who just got released from jail for the charge of manslaughter just got to town. He is in his mid twenty's.

Truck Driver, Oklahoma truck drives for the city transportation, Stops at a local dinner and eats.


Plot: Exposition: Local people are having trouble with the deadly sand storms, which ruin their crops and they have to keep the sand out of their houses. The truck driver eats at the restaurant and talks to the waitress. When he leaves he gives Tom Joad a ride and finds out he was in jail for four years do to man slaughter and is gonna work for his uncle.
