Young Goodman Brown

1. The allegory is the journey through life that all people face, and having to state and fallow hat you believe.
2. Pink ribbon, it could symbolize innocents and how he lost his innocents. Devil, the devil represent evil and when he has his staff is symbolizes the devil and also they refer it to a big black snake and a snake symbolizes evil. Faith is another symbol, he has faith until he leaves and then he has lost faith.
3.I think the images in the forest where an illusion and it happened to get Goodman Brown to go on the side of evil.
4. Goodman Brown, Faith, devil, Goody Cloyse, minister, Descon Gookin
5. King Phillips war is the allusion to the King Phillips war. Egyptian magi turned the staff into a snake and is an allusion to the bible.
6. The story was hard to understand because of all the allusions, but I liked the allusion of Faith and him leaving his wife and losing her was him losing his Faith, I thought that was cleaver. I also liked how the traveler was the devil and the cane was a snake. In the end when they had you thinking about if the illusions in the forest were real or not made the story better and gave you something to think about.
7. I think he thought through each character well with the events that happened in the forest and his wife and made the reader really think.
8. I think the theme is evil and how he came across many obstacles dealing with evil and trying to get him to become evil.

2a. Society's request is conformity and instead they should strive self-reliance.

2b. He advocates nonconformist because he believes people should act as themselves rather then the rest of society. When he says to be nonconformist he is saying you should be yourself.

4a. They fallowed what they believed and achieved great things.

4b. Great people are sometimes inconsistent because their beliefs and ideas change daily because they aren't afraid to be different in front of society. He doesn't think consistency is important and you should say what you believe in front of society rather then alone.

5a. I agree with Emerson that is it better to rely on yourself on what you believe. If you state what you believe and fallow through with it you could achieve great things like the people in Emerson's piece. You could also figure out who you are rather then be like everyone else and not stand out to the world.

5b. I think they have the greatest impact on society because they aren't afraid to speak what they think and they could inspire other people to break free and fallow what they believe. They change society because they will do whatever they can to change society because they are passionate and if they have good ideas people will break free and listen. I think anyone who can inspire someone else to do what is right and what they want to do. Like a famous athlete, a doctor, the president, and anyone who can break a individual free from the rest of society.
